We're Screwed.

To parrot the President elect's devoted, loving and racist wife, "...for the first time in my life, I'm ashamed of my country." Or something like that. Either way, it's true that the stupid people have voted and the left has taken over. The Marxists have won a battle by dumbing down the country and finding an enigma candidate who can pretend to be messianic and use greeting card proclamations to hypnotize the masses and make the leftists in the media swoon.

Well, it worked and now we'll see how it goes. By all indications, we're screwed. But who knows, maybe I've been wrong all along and communism will finally be proven to be the best form of governance after all. Maybe a few months in an Obama re-education camp will be fun and I'll come out of it with a new outlook on the world. Maybe I'll realize that big government programs and control of industry is really the way to go. Maybe a select group of elites really will know best how to rule us simpletons and prove definitively that forced income equality and political correctness is better than free markets and personal responsibility. Well, we'll see. The age of Obama is upon us. I'll give him a shot. Unlike the hate filled left who made it an eight year mission to destroy President Bush, I will respect the office enough to follow this man, and give him a chance to prove my suspicions wrong. But, as stated before, my gut tells me we're screwed.

God help us.

I, for one, think it's great that Scud has finally overcome his despair and reemerged in public. After a few weeks of totaling immersing himself in the healing rhetoric of Bill, Sean, Limbaugh, Malkin and Faux News. He appears to be completely refreshed and ready, once again, to do battle with the enemies of right wing facism . While, to some, Scud may appear confused. Proclaiming his willingness to "to follow this man" and at the same time using words like, racist, Marxist, stupid, communism and re-education camp, to describe him and his supporters. I can assure you, it's not confusion, that just the way we on the right view things.

Like Scud, I'm also worried. Let's be honest, just look how well the last 8 years have turned out. I mean, how can any new president possibly maintain the high standards of governing set by George W. Bush. He, along with the help of the Republican party, worked extremely hard to get the country into it's present condition. And I fear it can only change under a new administration. Yep, my gut tells me we're screwed.

The fear instilled in you by right wing bloviators fails to sync with reality. If Barack Obama were a Marxist, then the last person we'd find at Treasury would be Timothy Geithner. The head the the New York Reserve was educated at Dartmouth and Johns Hopkins. He has no personal ties to Obama nor any significant ties to the Democratic party. Geithner brings continuity. He's worked with Paulson and Bernanke on the current crisis since it started to unravel last year. He brings experience. Geithner has spent more time on international financial crises than probably any other American policy maker. It's hard to imagine a better selection.

If Barack Obama was as beholden to political correctness as you claim, then the last person we'd find as his chief economic adviser would be Larry Summers. He made some derogatory remarks about the intellectual capacity of women that many - myself included - found distasteful. Still, the man has a first rate grasp of economic policy that we'll need to help guide us out of the current economic morass. Thus far, Obama proves himself far more pragmatic than idealistic.

Barack Obama has assembled a first rate economic team which currently includes zero Marxists or Socialists. He has expressed willingness to delay tax increases for the wealthy in order to broker a stimulus deal with Republicans. While your tendency is toward ideological labels, Obama's hand seems guided more by pragmatism than anything else. I don't expect you to believe that since Mr. Hannity thinks otherwise....

Sorry. I spoke too fast. According to the Wall Street Journal, Lawrence Summers worked part time for D.E. Shaw Group - one of those Eastern elitist hedge funds run by administrators who routinely fly over Scud's house. He likes to look at the sky, shake his fist and scream, "Damn YOU, hedge fund managers!!!" Well, get a load of this: D.E. Shaw "was founded in a small office over a communist bookstore in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1988." Q.E.D. COMMIES! COMMIES! COMMIES!

I agree with you Scud. After 8 years of President Dumbfuck, and his ankle grabbing enablers in Congress, we sure are screwed. I'm surprised it took you so long to figure that out. Better late than never.

guys, guys, guys, hold on now. True, I think the guy is insanely left of center. But, if he's as smart as you all want to pretend that he is, he'll slam the door on Pelosi and Reid and govern more to the center. Even you have to be honest and admit that those two clowns are horrible! Obama will impress me if he can stand up to their whining and tell them to take their socialist agenda and shove it. But, with his eagerness to meet on day one to hand out more cash in order to "stimulate" the economy, and hand 25 billion to failing auto companies, I have my justifiable doubts.

Yes, the repubs had a hand in screwing things up, but it was the clintonistas running Fannie and Freddy for the last decade along with current Dem leadership standing in the way of effective oversight and reform that really screwed us. You can't blame Bush for everything! facts are facts.

Scud, Scud, Scud. I've been on this blog for five years. In all that time, you've remained 47 years old but this is the first time you've frustrated me. The Clinton rule changes are NOT responsible for the current crisis. George Bush's opinion of the rules matched your own. All activity that resulted from the changes effectively ended when Bush took office in 2001. Secondly, the Clinton rules only applied to banks under FDIC jurisdiction - that includes Fannie and Freddie. Those institutions were responsible for only a small fraction of all subprime mortgages.

If you want to blame Democrats, then look to 1999 when they liberalized the derivatives market. Personally, I think derivatives are useful mechanisms for determining value but you're without sin and looking to cast a stone. The problem occured when companies such as AIG were allowed to sell vast amounts of highly leveraged swaps. The availability of credit default swaps drove demand for commercial backed paper which in turn drove demand for mortgages. President Bush could have avoided this mess by applying the rules of insurance to companies that sold swaps. Insurance companies are required to cover their bets with cash. Why not derivatives traders?

If traders were forced to cover their swaps with cash, then they could not have placed as many on sale which in turn would have decreased demand for mortgage-backed securities which would have decreased demand for mortgages. With the market capped by pesky requirements that assets be backed with cash, the bar would have been raised for home ownership and house prices would not have bubbled (as much). Problem solved. Unfortunately, that sort of intervention runs against every fiber in George Bush's body. He'll use public money to clean up the mess, but he won't use public rules to prevent one. It's an arrangement that suits his cronies well.

Facts, facts, facts. Why do you libs always insist on bringing facts into the mix? Are you a bunch of slow learners or what? Surely, by now, you must have realized that we aren't interested in any stinking facts. If we were, we wouldn't be watching Fox News.

Take that Jeff. Your entire argument refuted in just one paragraph. And might I add, a paragraph completely devoid of facts.

Like I said before, we conservatives don't need no stinking facts.

Isn't photoshopping the flag upside down un-American and unpatriotic? Shame on you!
